In 2019, a small piece of land in Southeast Europe was claimed as the Free Republic of Verdis — an emerging microstate between Croatia and Serbia, working diligently toward international recognition.

Verdis launched an e-Residency programme. It looked like the kind of early-mover opportunity that rewards those who show up first. But applying required a Visa or Mastercard — or cryptocurrency. Most of our African community has neither. So the opportunity, once again, was invisible to the people who might benefit most from it.
